waking up (or not)

May 12, 2008

These are the days that it takes me a couple of hours (and in this case two days) to wake up. And it surprises me, because the weather is so nice and I’d like myself to rise and shine at impossible hours. But nothing like that really happens. I’d also like myself to study hard, another things I’m miserably failing at at the moment. So much for the not doodling anymore part. I’m doodling like there’s no tomorrow!

Then again, that’s basically what Kandinsky’s paintings look like & I think they’re pretty. So. No, not a so to be spotted: I will not compare myself to a great artist, and I will not say a great artist just doodles a bit. But it’s reassuring that doodling can be pretty, so I’m hoping there is a metaphorical extention to that.

question

What is the name of this guy? I have been thinking about an appropriate name, a fitting name, but I can’t decide… Matt? Rob? Alex? Dude?* I guess it needs more pondering about…

* guess what series I’m into at the moment, hihi.

Right now, I’m working on a presentation on Nicaraguan Sign Language. Fascinating stuff and it raises some nice linguistic questions: How much of language is innate? Do languages become complicated because of conventions and rules that develop over time or is part of the complexity located in our brains, from birth onwards? It’s also nice to see the study is also picked up by the media (check for instance New York Times), though I don’t like the narrative drama they add. I just now found an online clip about Nicaraguan Sign Language, featuring the leader of the project. The voice-over is just hilarious and I don’t really agree with everything they’re saying, but it’s nice to see a research/essay topic come to life like this.

third blog start

Yes, it’s about time I get some work done, and start focussing on what I started out to do in these two years of studying (almost a year has passed already, it somewhat freaks me out).

Anydoodle, I thought it was time for a new design and fresh plans. Which involve posting quotes (because other people write much more fun and sensible things than I do) and linguistic stuff (readable stuff I mean).
