unitasking, whatever

November 28, 2007

I’m too lazy to upload any pictures, so you’ll have to do it w/ texts & pictures I lazily took from the internet today.

I found a new possible youtube addiction (next to Jeeves & Wooster) & with it comes a new repeat-a-hundred-times song:

Now, sing along! The series & song are “brilliant, I tell you! Genius, I say” (ah, another Yzma quote springing to mind).

Now to the title of this blog. I’m so used to multitasking that I can’t unitask anymore. That’s why I start drawing & reading in class, while also listening to presentations. And now I found out that I love multitasking so much that I even want my food to multitask. Well, at least be multifunctional. Like this delicious rice stuff which you can use with bread, or to sweeten yr tea, yoghurt or anything. Or this stuff

also to put on yr bread, but it’s also surprisingly yum w/ rice & French beans (as they are apparently called).

Now, a cup of tea to fight the tiredness & headache!

Bare necessities

November 19, 2007

First, let me get you in a good mood, cuz wining & groaning & grumbling & complaining has never made this world any better. So sing along:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ogQ0uge06o&feature=related

Now, how’s this for a bare necessity: water. Currently, there is none available in my building, or even in the entire city (at least, that’s what they made us believe). That certainly puts some perspective on things (thirld world stuff etc, you know the argument). Anyway, right now, it means that I can’t

a) use the toilet, whereas I just drank one liter of water

b) take a shower. Mind you, I need it, cuz I just came back from running some 4 kilometers

c) eat anything else than apples. Cuz I’ve run out of bread or anything you can eat w/out using water

d) I just wasted my time preparing my food.

And now the worst part: this all happened minutes after I decided that (once again) I had reached my limits by doing & thinking & trying too much (and there’s still that pile of reading & writing to be done).

So, here’s my one bare necessity: my Relativity Theory. Just accept the bad things & emphasize the good things. Don’t waste time on things you can’t change, but focus on what you CAN do.

Which, right now, is reading. And I bet I’ll be one good smelly hungry person.

It’s a beautiful world

November 17, 2007

Since my favourite radio guy is off the air on Saturdays, I’ve taken the liberty to put forth his message myself, and extend it a bit. He always ends his show with stating that today will be a beautiful day, however crap the wheather is, or whatever bad news he braodcast during his show. And he happens to do this around the time I either wake up or leave the house to face the world, so his message always comes at the right time & it gets me in the good mood to actually make it a beautiful day.

So, let me tell you on this Saturday morning: it is a beautiful world. Even when you go to the shops and there are annoying people who demand to borrow your customer’s card so they can nibble two cents off from their price, which they then don’t even do. Even when you bruise your leg. Even when you don’t look like you just woke up, but look like you haven’t woken up at all. Even when it starts to rain (cuz the rain makes the picture even more beautiful). Even if you have to get some work done, but don’t really feel like it.

Let these skies inspire you:

Now, time for my favourite morning drink: Biocoffee & Rice milk.

Skyhighbye

November 16, 2007

The only thing I really really LOVE about my home are the views: the sunrises, the skies, the clouds & the evening lights.

Sigh..

Now, let me see, what else did I want to show you? Oh right, for a completely different view on a much used verb:

Now, that it something I shd do more often. Though I recently cleaned out my closet, I didn’t get to the part where you actually throw stuff away. So they’re still hiding behind the couch. Maybe I should find my inspiration here.

By the way, did you know that dashboard, which I pronounced in Dutch probably a thousand times, is in English actually quite a dashed exciting word. But only for the dash part. Maybe it has something to w/ these two guys and their language. I’m not the kind of person who preaches on film/tv canons, cuz usually I haven’t seen any of the films everybody knows, but these series are a definite must for everyone. And I mean, everyone.

Tickety-tock!

How to get by classes

November 15, 2007

Lately, I’m experiencing some problems listening to people. Not in normal conversations, but during lectures & presentations. I don’t know what it is, but I just can’t get myself to concentrate & pretend to think it’s interesting. It may be that the people I need to listen to are bad presenters, but I recently read something about us modern people being brought up to multitask & that we therefore have trouble doing only one thing at a time (a good reason to use some imagery/metaphors in your presentation, so people can visualize relevant things instead of wandering off in their own imagination). Anyway, this is what I do to keep happy still:

Now, there’s nothing I love more than DIY, by others or myself. Today I discovered a website with some wonderful handmade beauties. Among my favourites is this cutiepie (you cd’ve guessed it wd’ve had something to do w/ trees, hihi):

I’ll post some pictures of DImy stuff some time soon.

Autumn yeah!

November 11, 2007

This is without doubt the most beautiful season of the year. Check these beauties:

and this colourscheme:

I can by now say something on the freaky language thing I posted last time, though I doubt whether anyone wd really be interested if it involves things like the following

“From this perspective, the distribution of auxiliary have becomes partly a question of what kind of verbal structures can be embedded in a DP sister of BE and partly a question of what DP can move into the Spec of the larger DP, and when.” (Kayne 2000, 112)

Guess not. I hope the thought that I figured it out, is reassuring enough for you. Anyway, just a bit of information still, it looks something like this when it’s solved. Or actually in the process of being solved.

Right. So then, one last word. Or actually, one last picture. I received two new books today, which together with the book I already had make up quite a collection of work by a great thinker, inspirer, and oh, author.

My, wasn’t this a useful post. Yes, it was, especially for my blogging skills, in particular inserting links & pictures. Hurray!

Reading list

November 7, 2007

Nowadays, instead of reading literature or stories, I mainly read stuff like this:

…BE [DP Spec D/Pe0 [DPposs [AGR0 QP/NP]]]

…BE [DP DPposs/i D/Pe0 [ [ei] [AGR0 QP/NP]]]

…BE [DP Spec D/Pe0 [DPposs [AGR0 QP/NP]]]

Who’d guess this has anything to do w/ language anymore?

I’ll let you know when I’ve figured that out!

Now, time for some trees!

And of course one of these beauties:

Endless Repetition

November 6, 2007

Don’t you just LOVE the fact that, whenever you’ve ‘discovered’ some new song, you can just listen to it again & again & again & again, w/out it getting boring? I at least do! Right now, I’m non-stop listening to this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gheYf9kvBRw

Though she sounds a bit unsteady or even offkey at times, I very much like the happiness of it (as opposed to Keane’s, er, melancholy). Especially like the part where she goes “…game, I try’na stay awake ‘n remember my name”. And the glo’al stops of course.

Repeat please!

No, it wasn’

November 5, 2007

Thursday it wasn’t & Today wasn’t much luckier.

Today was the day that everybody around me seemed to go under. Literally go under, as in, can’t take the stress anymore. All around me are people stressing out about the amount of work that has be done. And I pretend not to be infected & just do what a girl’s gotta do, but even I have my little breakdowns.

They just usually only last a couple of minutes & then I’m free to continue preaching on Relativity Theory again. Hurray!

Back to work!

Will today be the day?

November 1, 2007

While drinking a cup of coffee, trying to ignore the complete chaos around me & writing on English loanwords in Japanese, I wonder: will this be the day that I get the good news that I will soon be moving to an actual house & leave this room to the next in line? Oh, how I wish…
